Hi everyone,

Our main event coming up is the HSC Christmas Party taking place on Saturday 3rd December in the Clubhouse. This is a great, fun event for everyone, and you are very welcome to attend. We do need to know numbers of children attending by this Sunday – so please let Peter know (below) if you have a young person under 16 who would like to come. There is no need for adults to book, and we hope to see you there.

I was also reminded that it’s 14 years ago today since our successful project with ITV’s People’s Millions for our Floating Classroom “Bure Magic”. For those that are not familiar with the story, 14 years ago, on a freezing cold November day, we were given special permission to sail on the Broad and were joined by ITV Anglia who filmed our brilliant young sailors and our bid for funding. This was then shown on the ITV Anglia news, where we went head-to-head with another project. All through that day (and before) our members were fantastic in drumming up support – and our local community really got behind us, which was really appreciated. We found out the next day that we were successful in achieving the most votes - and £50,000 funding to make our dream a reality! Some months later, an ex-hire boat, renamed “Bure Magic”, became part of HSC and was fitted out to our needs. She has since been a great help to our Club. What an adventure it was – time for another one …?!

Commodore’s Update

With the season now finished and not so much going on at the moment, we had our Prizegiving & Officer Handover at The Boathouse, Ormesby - a lovely evening & food, with my thanks to Belinda & her team for excellent service & help.

I am recovering following an accident, which involved an ambulance to hospital and several hours in A&E, now on the mend, but things will take time to recover.

On Thursday I attended, along with several club members, Ken Davies’ funeral, it’s another loss to our Club. Ken was quite a character, but would always give his help and wisdom, he will be greatly missed.

This Saturday, both Peter & myself will attend the RYA Conference being held at the Royal Hospital School in Suffolk.

Don’t forget the Christmas party, remember it’s not only for the children but adults too, do come and join in the fun.

Well, that’s all at the moment.

Take care in these dark winter nights.

Vice Commodore’s Clew

We are now getting close to the date of the HSC Christmas Party on 03 December and we need to have names of children under 16 years who wish to attend (and their parents) by 27 November to ensure that there will be a present from Father Christmas for them. It will also help if you can let us know what food you can bring to this mainly self-catering party. Just drop an email to the address at the end of this piece, including ages of children.

The scheduled working party for 26 November this weekend is cancelled, as Will and I are attending the RYA Affiliated Clubs Conference at the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook on Saturday. However, please put 10 December in your diaries as we are planning a final and festive working party of the year on that day. We will be providing some hot home cooked food and maybe some mince pies. It will help to have some idea of numbers so let us know if you think you will be there. You will still be welcome if you just turn up anyway. I am sure there will be plenty to do and it should be a bit of fun just before Christmas.
