Hi everyone,

There’s just a week and a half until the start of our 2022 season which begins on Sunday 27th March, with our Rigging Out Supper the evening before on Saturday 26th March at The Wroxham. Please contact Will ASAP if you would like to attend (more info below).

There will also be a Working Party this Saturday 19th March. Good progress has been made at working parties over the winter, but we really are reliant on our volunteer members for all our activities, so please do come along from 10am if you can help – even just for a short while, all are welcome.

Plans for the season are in full swing, with all Committees and Sub-Committees planning for the season’s activities. Three Rivers Race entries are open, places are filling up fast for training, and have you checked out the Club Regalia yet?

Commodore’s Update

A warm welcome to everyone, our new season is nearly here, can I ask all members who wish to attend the Rigging Out Supper that they do this immediately please as I have a deadline set by our venue to give them final numbers. The event is to be held @ The Wroxham Hotel, details /menu are attached in the Jibsheet. Payment can be made direct via BACs, don’t forget to add your name as the reference. It’s a two course Main & Dessert for £26, it will be great to see you all. Please can you bring a prize for the raffle. I have replied to all emails sent to confirm receipt of your order, if you have not had a response please resend or contact me.

As you may have noticed the Webcam has been repaired and is back in service, my thanks to Ron Sergeant for this. I would also like to pass on my thanks to the members who have attended our work parties, the more that can give time to the club it will help us keep our costs down, which we all know are rising rapidly. Our Thursday work party are doing a sterling job as usual with a massive thank you to them.

Peter & myself attended the 3RR meeting where plans are well in hand for this year’s race, with a good number of boats already entered. My thanks to the Fields family for their hospitality.

We have a management meeting on Monday.

I was at Grafham Water Sailing Club this weekend with Abbey & Anya, where the East & South East squads joined forces. Saturday was very lively with very strong gusts, which tested all of the squad, but both Abbey & Anya did our club proud & enjoyed their weekend, well done girls. Their next event is @ Brightlingsea.

As I said in my last report, our Training Centre Principal Bob Hancock is stepping down. I would like a member who has good organisational skills, who could take on the role with the support of the Chief Instructors & our admin crew - you don’t have to be an Instructor for this role. If you know someone who would like to take up the challenge, please contact me directly either by phone or email to get further details.

Don’t forget to book your place for your child or yourself with the Training Centre.

Hopefully you have been working hard on your boats ready to get out on the water.

If you have not paid your membership / mooring fees please can you do this now, it puts a lot of extra work on our already busy Secretary & Membership Secretary.

That’s all for now, Nash wants his walk.

Please all take care, keep safe & I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Rear Commodore’s Figure of 8 Knot

We have been doing some work cleaning up the exterior of the clubhouse and getting it presentable for the new season which is now almost here. Over the winter there tends to be a gradual green tinge of algae which cleans off quite nicely with a well aimed pressure washer. A build-up of twigs and small branches which had gathered in the slipways has been removed and added to the growing bonfire pile at the top of the car park. The last working party was a bit limited by the weather, but next weekend is looking really good for some more outside activity, with this being the last working party before the season starts. Come along if you can from 1000 to 1300, with light lunch provided.

The Yeoman hoist will be in use on Saturday 26th March so can everyone using the club car park please park well away from the hoist allowing plenty of room for it to be moved in and out of the car park. Parking round the perimeter of the car park would help, but keeping a metre back from the fence to avoid the hedge plants.

Thank you.

Peter
