Hi everyone,

It’s been another busy week at HSC, with several events taking place last weekend. A work party saw good progress made on the ground in front of the dinghy racks, with a further work party planned for next weekend (21st May). Saturday afternoon saw our Pursuit race and Spring Social, and Club racing took place on Sunday. Unfortunately, there has been a slight delay to the start of our training season, but we look forward to this beginning soon and updating you further in due course.

You can find out more about last weekend’s activities here

Last Sunday's racing on the river

This weekend we have a Single-Handed Open on Saturday (tomorrow) – All welcome - please see further information in the flyer below and our Notice of Race on the website, and Club racing on Sunday (more information below).

James Gittins has also kindly provided some fantastic photographs of the Horning Boat Show a couple of weeks ago, including these - many thanks James!

Commodore’s Update

Last weekend saw on Saturday the pursuit race, even though a small number of boats took part it was good to watch the chase between the boats, well done to Chris in the Yeoman who won both races, & also to Anya in her Topper who put up a good fight in the race.

This was followed by the Spring social, with a BBQ with sides - thanks to all who helped with the event, again blessed with a lovely evening.

The 3 Rivers Race is nearly upon us, with plans well underway & an excellent number of boats due to take part.  If you would like to get involved helping with a guardship please speak to Kevin Saunders, help is required @ the Hickling guardship. Thanks to Kevin & his team.

Saturday also saw a valiant effort with the new dinghy park surface, it’s coming along nicely, my sincere thanks to the members who turned up to help.

This week also saw the galley inspected by the local Inspectorate, achieving the highest mark, a massive well done & thanks to Vikki for the hours she has put in to gain this outstanding result.

This Saturday sees the single handed dinghy open, so come down & join in, whether sailing or spectating.

Could I ask -  if you borrowed the two red buoyancy aids & took them home by accident - that you return them to the Club asap please.

Don’t forget to recycle cans & bottles into the correct bins, so as a club we can do our bit.

As many of you hopefully have noticed our refurbished seat, very kindly done by Jeckells, again thanks to Peter Jeckells & his team for this. Can I please ask that it is not used to store bags & other items on & if you have wet clothing you use one of the plastic chairs so we don’t spoil our lovely new seat.

I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Take care

Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot

Thank you to everyone who turned out last Saturday morning to help with our hardstanding project. We were able to get the area levelled, which involved some heavy digging and wheelbarrow work. Unfortunately, we had a small machinery failure which prevented our finishing the packing down of the whole area, but we are well on the way now to getting the honeycomb plastic down and then filling it with the shingle.

Progress at last Saturday's work party

Next Saturday is the Single Handed Open so our next opportunity to make a big impact on the project will be 21 May, and the following weekend is 3 Rivers, so it would be really good if we could have another big group effort on 21 May. Have a great weekend off this week!

While I am here, as OOD for the Downriver on 22 May, could I ask all intending competitors to pre-register please on the racing@horning-sailing.club site, giving name of boat, sail number, handicap and names of helm and crew. We are expecting a large entry, particularly of cruisers

Can you help the Three Rivers Committee?

A little plea to your better nature from the Three Rivers Committee. We are appealing for some help in the Galley over the weekend of 28 and 29 May to cook and serve breakfasts. There are various shifts and it can be a very social occasion (not to mention ideal for insomniacs). If you would be able to help please add your name to the rota in the Clubhouse, or email Karen on karen@ thepiglets.plus.com

The shifts we have are 8 am to 1 pm and 10 pm to 1 am on Saturday, then 1 am to 4 am, 4am to 7 am, 7 am to 10 am and 10 am to the finish (about 12.30 to 1) on Sunday. We would be extremely grateful for any volunteers and your halos will be in the post ☺️

Many thanks, Karen Fields
