Hi everyone,

We’ve reached the end of season – that flew by – and we had a lovely weekend to celebrate the end of the 2021 sailing!

The AGM was on Friday evening in the Village Hall, with several members also joining via Zoom. At that we welcomed our new Management Committee, and it’s great to see several new faces joining this, and our new Flag Officers and Treasurer – with Will Penny Snr becoming Commodore, Peter Coles Rear Commodore, Kevin Saunders Treasurer, and Anne Wagstaff & Pam Shallcross kindly continuing their roles as Honorary Secretary and Honorary Membership Secretary respectively – many thanks to them all!

At that meeting, Holly & Will updated the membership on progress during the year, and outlined plans for the coming months. We revisited last year’s aim of the last year being to get members back on the water and enjoying themselves. As we move towards the winter period the focus will turn to progressing plans for becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and the Clubhouse Development Project. We were also delighted to share with members that our Secretary, Anne, has been awarded a prestigious RYA Volunteer Award in recognition of her efforts that will be officially presented at a ceremony in London next month – congratulations Anne, richly deserved!

Meanwhile Saturday saw the start of the End of Season Regatta on Hoveton Little Broad, in light winds, followed by the Flag Officers’ Thank You Party to members on Saturday evening, where we were treated to a fantastic buffet thanks to Vikki, Sarah & Lyn in the Galley. Sunday saw the morning’s overcast skies and drizzle clear up to provide a good day’s racing, even if the winds were still a little light. With close to 40 boats on the water, it certainly felt busy! At the end of racing we had the traditional firing of the cannon to signify the close of the season – many thanks to Ron Jackson for this. At the conclusion of formal racing, many of the younger sailors continued sailing on the water until sunset – so we hope that this was the sign of a good day on the water! The full report is on our website here https://horning-sailing.club/news/hsc-end-season-2021/ – and on Yachts & Yachting here https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/242769/Horning-Sailing-Club-End-of-Season-Regatta-2021 and End of Season sailing results are available on the website, along with the full trophy list.
