Hi everyone,

Another week has gone by so quickly, and there’s a few important days coming up for our Club, with the first being the Horning Boat Show taking place this Saturday (30th April).

Last weekend saw racing continue on the river with a lot more breeze than we’ve seen yet this season, although it was pleasantly warm in the spring sunshine. Racing was exciting, and you can read the full report here: https://horning-sailing.club/news/hsc-racing-24th-april-2022/

Looking ahead to this weekend, this evening we will be setting up for the Boat Show (6pm) and Saturday (tomorrow) sees the main event - this is a great opportunity for us to showcase our brilliant Club, so we look forward to being part of the Boat Show, with the Club open and taster sessions running from 10am-4pm. If you would like to come down and help, we would still be grateful for any additional helpers and would love to see you. Of course, if you know of anyone who would like to try sailing, please encourage them to come down and have a sail. You can find out more here: https://horning-sailing.club/news/discover-sailing-saturday-30th-april/

Sunday sees racing on the river – more on this below.

Commodore’s Update

Another week has slipped by, Sunday saw another day of glorious sunshine with a lively breeze & some strong gusts, but good to watch the racing from the Club. It’s nice to see members coming down to enjoy the racing & catching up with friends.

With the Horning Boat Show & our Discover sailing / Open Day on this Saturday (30th) all help would be greatly appreciated to ensure we showcase our lovely Club. If you can spare some time Friday after 6pm to get the Club ready also help on Saturday please. A big thank you again for members who have moved their boats from Swan Dyke to facilitate the show.

The Management Committee held its meeting on Monday via Zoom.

The Spring social follows after the Pursuit Race on Saturday May 07th, this will be a BBQ with sides available to purchase on the day. It would be great to see you.

A reminder for parents, if your child is at the Club they must have a parent present, if you have to leave or cannot be present you must have another adult as loco parentis, forms are on the Clubhouse notice board, please hand in at the galley & advise the duty team, thank you for your understanding as this is a legal requirement & safeguards your child.

For members who have not yet paid their fees please can you do this a straightaway, it would be greatly appreciated & save additional work for Anne our Secretary & Pam our Membership Secretary.

I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend with the addition of the Bank Holiday, have a great weekend whether @ the club or with friends & family.

Until then keep safe & well

Regards,

Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot

The main topic this week is obviously Horning Boat Show and we still need members to help with preparing the Club on Fri about 1800 and from 0800 on Saturday. My main message remains focused on the following weekend (07 May) for the hardstanding work as previously advertised. So this is my further reminder that we need plenty of volunteers and wheelbarrows for this big project and it helps if you can let me know on the email below if you think you can come and help. Meanwhile enjoy the Boat Show and make sure you promote the Club whenever you can.

Galley News

It has been lovely to see so many members use the galley to have a refreshing cuppa, a snack or just popping in for a quick hello. We are looking forward to The Horning Boat Show and just wanted to inform you what the galley is planning to offer.

We will be selling a range of sandwiches, quiche and salad, scones with jam and cream and lots of delicious cakes – thanks to Karen Fields for organising these cakes from the WI. We have also partnered up with The Galley delicatessen in the village to sell their range of sausage rolls. Varieties include pork, pork and caramelised onion, pork and chorizo and a vegetarian option of feta, chick pea and red pepper.

We are also providing a free packed lunch to those who are kindly giving their time to volunteer. This will include a sandwich, packet of crisps and a pack of biscuits. Hot drinks and squash will also be provided free of charge to all volunteers the whole day.

Finally, as the cost of products we purchase has risen significantly, the prices in the Galley for most items has increased but we still feel we are extremely reasonable compared to other clubs.

Thank you to those who have already given their time to volunteer for us this weekend and since the season began, we are very grateful.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend!
