Hi everyone,

September already! The year is flying by and the darker evenings are sadly bringing to a close our evening activities at HSC. Last Saturday saw the final session of our Sundown series, with a great turnout, the sailors enjoying lively conditions. Sunday was racing on the river in VERY changeable winds! – and Monday was the last of our paddleboarding sessions, which saw 11 members enjoy an evening paddle to Dydler’s Mill and Hoveton Little Broad. You can read the full report on Sunday’s sailing here: https://horning-sailing.club/news/club-racing-sunday-29th-august-2021/

Horning Sailing Club becomes RYA British Youth Sailing Recognised Club

Last night, our final training session of the year was a rather special night – not only was it our RYA Inspection which, you’ll be pleased to know, we passed! - but Paul Wren, Regional Performance Manager from the RYA, presented the Club with ‘British Youth Sailing Recognised Club’ status. This accolade celebrates clubs that allow junior sailors to develop their sailing and racing skills and encourage young sailors at grassroots level to stay in the sport.  It is a great achievement for HSC – well done everyone!

If you’re keen to get involved in the running of the Club, have some ideas you’d like to share, or just have a lot of enthusiasm, please do think about standing – we’d love to encourage new people onto the Committee. You can sign up via the board in the Clubhouse or, if you cannot make it down to HSC, through contacting the Secretary (01692 630507 secretary@horning-sailing.club). All nominations need to be proposed and seconded by full voting members . If you have any questions, please speak to Will or Holly.  Don’t delay, closing date 10th September.

A couple of reminders:

A reminder that our next Work Party will be on Saturday 18th September from 10am-1pm. Please do come down and give a hand if you can.

We also have a lost property table in the Clubhouse at the exit, so if you have lost anything during the season, please take a look.

Upcoming Events:

HSC Junior Regatta

Following the conclusion of Thursday night training, our Junior Regatta will take place on Saturday 11th September. We would ask young sailors to please arrive at 8.30am to rig, after which we will have two races in the morning, then lunch – available to purchase from the galley or bring your own. There will be further races in the afternoon followed by the presentation of certificates and trophies and also a BBQ (free for the young sailors). Please email trainingcentre@horning-sailing.club if your child would like to participate.

Bart’s Bash

Immediately after the Junior Regatta we will hold our Bart’s Bash Race commencing at approx. 4pm. Everyone is welcome to take part in this Allcomers race, which is held annually in memory of Andrew “Bart” Simpson, who passionately believed that everyone should have the chance to try sailing and enjoy the many benefits that it brings. This event raises funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation, and we would love to get a good turnout on the day. You also get to see your positions against sailors across the world! You can sign up to take part here: https://www.bartsbash.com/sign-up/individual

British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships

As Paul spoke about last night, the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships will take place on Saturday 25th/Sunday 26th September, this year being held at Grafham Water Sailing Club. This is a great event for those with RYA Stage 2 and above, with several different fleets, from the OnBoard Fleet where there is a focus on games with aims (and you can also borrow a boat from Grafham in this fleet),to the Regatta Coached Fleet and Championship Fleet for those with more race experience. If you’d like to find out more you can visit https://www.rya.org.uk/racing/british-youth-sailing/events/british-youth-sailing-regional-junior-championships or please speak to Holly.

Open Dinghy Weekend

Also on 25th/26th September, we have our Open Dinghy Weekend, with racing on the river Saturday afternoon, and on the Broad Sunday. Please save the date and more information will follow soon.

200 Club

You can still join the HSC 200 Club where there are monthly cash prizes to be won.  Currently there are still some numbers available – you can find further details on the forms on the back wall of the Clubhouse or you can contact Joan Butcher on 01603 466535, email joan324butcher@btinternet.com.  Alternatively, you can speak with Holly or Will.
