Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope that you have had a good festive break. It was great to see so many people getting out on the water over Christmas at Snowflake Sailing Club, particularly given the milder weather that we’ve been seeing. With it being a little warmer this is reminiscent of Spring – and there’s only a little over 2 months until our sailing season begins again (hooray!) – and we can’t wait to see you! You’ll soon be sent a reminder for your membership – which you can also do online via the website www.horning-sailing.club – we really do appreciate your support, many thanks to those who have already renewed. If you’re yearning for summer, you might want to see this highlights video from last season – what a year we had!

Behind the scenes, planning is continuing for the 2023 season, from the racing programme to socials, training to Horning Week – it looks to be an action- packed season ahead.

Winter Social - HATS Pantomime "Puss in Boots"

Talking of behind the scenes… one of our winter social events is a trip to the Horning Panto. Horning Sailing Club have traditionally been great supporters of the Horning pantomime (Horning Amateur Theatrical Society) and this year’s show is the very funny, family-friendly “Puss in Boots” – there will even be a few faces that you recognise amongst the cast. All HATS shows raise money for charities – and this year are raising funds for the Norfolk Community Foundation and the Foodbank, so please do support the show if you can. Due to a clash of dates with SFSC’s next social, the group from HSC will be going on Friday 20th January at 7.30pm at Horning Village Hall. Please email me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com if you would like to join the fun – tickets are £7 for adults and £4 for under 16s, so please come and support a local group, whilst having a great evening with friends.

Commodore's Update

A happy New Year to you all, I hope you had a lovely festive break, catching up with family & friends. It was great to be at home With Abbey, William & Nash our dog over Christmas, on New Years Day watching the fantastic fireworks display at Cromer.

We are working hard getting ready for our new season, Peter & myself look forward to seeing you all. The Management Committee meet on Monday.

With the start of the New Year our subscriptions & moorings become due this month, please can you renew promptly to save both Pam & Anne a lot of time & work contacting people, if you have a mooring, they must be paid on time please. With moorings it is one boat per mooring, members must not put other boats either inside or alongside, these must be firstly authorised with the relevant berthing master & also payment made to the Membership Secretary Pam.

Work parties will be arranged throughout the season subject to weather conditions, both Peter & myself would like as many to come along & help as recent ones have been very poorly attended, as we have said we are a self help club & to keep membership fees also running costs down we need your help, we have to remember it’s all our club, lets all do our bit, it’s good fun & a chance to meet up with other members, there’s also free lunch, with tea & coffee provided.

We are still looking for a Rear Commodore, please come & speak to Peter & myself, we as Flags work as a team, sharing the responsibilities & cover for each other.

That’s all for now, please keep safe & look forward to seeing you all soon

Vice Commodore's Clew

Happy New Year everybody. I hope you all had a great Christmas. Ann and I spent Christmas away with family and many grandchildren, like I imagine some of you will have done. I went to the Club today for the first time since well before Christmas and was surprised to find that the decorations had already been taken down and stowed. That had been my main reason for going, so a big thank you to whoever was responsible for getting that job done.

The other reason for going was to meet with our Thursday Group to see what work would be needed in the coming months. There are some big projects but more about that when we have done a bit more planning. On the same subject, some of you may have looked at the White Book and noticed that working parties were scheduled for 07 and 21 January. We will not do the work party for this weekend as the weather forecast is poor and past experience has shown that it may be too soon after the festive season to encourage volunteers to turn out in the wind and rain. We will have more time to produce a decent work plan for later in the month.

That last paragraph was Rear Commodore business, which Will and I are trying to cover in the absence of one. We would be really delighted to have a volunteer for the third Flag Officer post, which could initially be on an acting basis. The role is not really demanding as all the Flags work as a team and will always cover for each other. If you think you could give it a go contact Will or myself for a no obligation chat.

Finally, we have a new and very enthusiastic Entertainments Committee this year and we already have some interesting plans for some new look social events during the season. We will be meeting again later this month to start putting detail on our plans and getting the programme published in the new White Book. If anyone has any additional ideas for social events please let me know as we are always open to pursuing great ideas.
