Hi everyone,

It has been another hectic week at Horning Sailing Club, with beautiful weather seeing lots of members out on the water making the most of it. We noticed over the weekend how everyone on the river seemed to have smiles on their faces, and were generally just enjoying being out – great to see!

Last Thursday evening the juniors had a race night, the Sundown Series started on Saturday, on Sunday we were racing on the Broad (you can read the report here: https://horning-sailing.club/news/club-racing-sunday-13th-june-2021/), and Monday night we were paddleboarding, with more to look forward to this week, including the Yeoman & Kinsman National Championships over the weekend - more on this below.

Activity at HSC from the past week - clockwise from bottom left: Thursday's Junior Race Night, Sunday's racing on the Broad, Monday's Paddleboarding, Saturday's Sundown Series, Racing on the Broad and Paddleboarding

In light of the most recent government announcement delaying the end of lockdown, we will continue to operate as we have been over the past month. A reminder that our risk assessments and method statement can be found in the Downloads section of the Club website. A gentle reminder to please queue outside when using the Galley, and to use the one-way system on the Club premises.

The 60th Anniversary Yachtmaster Insurance Three Rivers Race – photographs & press coverage

We’re still on a high from the Three Rivers Race on 5/6th June, which was such a great weekend – and one that we’re sure will be talked about for a long time!

Many thanks to all those who have been in touch to share images – and they are being added to the Dropbox folder – link here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ohndfbasxq68p45/AAB0EoinKtkYK4gpiGwWZ_kea?dl=0 – if you would like to add images, please email me and I will send the edit link: commodore@horning-sailing.club

We also had a report in the EDP last Saturday. Please do continue to let us know your stories from the race – we’d love to share them with the membership!

The Sundown Series continues this Saturday

12th June was the perfect evening for the start of the Sundown series – and although the numbers were small, all those who participated had a brilliant sail. It will continue this Saturday, with races starting at approx. 4pm. This week, it would also be a great opportunity for our usual Sunday junior sailors to get out racing, as there will be no junior dinghy racing on Sunday due to the Yeoman Nationals and Down River race.

If you intend to come we’d be grateful if you could please let us know – racing@horning-sailing.club We could also do with rescue crews so please let us know if you can help on the above email address.

Yeoman/Kinsman Nationals

The Yeoman & Kinsman Nationals will be held this weekend (19-20 June) on Hoveton Little Broad. Please contact Toby on tfields9@hotmail.co.uk for more information.

The Notice of Race and Entry Form can be found here.

Sunday Sailing – Down River Race to Thurne

This Sunday’s Club Racing will be a Down River Race to Thurne. If you intend to participate, please could you email racing@horning-sailing.club prior to 8am Sunday morning with a mobile number that you will have with you on the day, so that you can be sent the briefing information – i.e. location of the start etc. (the briefing will not take place in person).

The programme is:

10.30am Cruisers

10.35am Allcomers “A”

10.40am Allcomers “B”

The return series will be at a time announced by the OOD. Boats with a handicap of greater than 24% (except cruisers) are not eligible for Down River Races. Allcomers “B” helms must be aged 16 or over & crews aged 14 or over on day of the race.

Paddleboarding sessions

Monday evening paddleboarding sessions are continuing to prove popular, with a paddle to Hoveton Little Broad last week. If anyone can help with running these we’d be so grateful – please email commodore@horning-sailing.club

They take place Monday evenings 5.30pm-7.30pm, with all welcome. You can book here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hsc-paddleboarding-sessions-tickets-154099047399
